Ongaku returns with charity concert featuring Mega ran

The ninth virtual concert featuring video game-inspired artists will raise money for charity.

The concert put together by Kent Ward, who has organized the Ongaku Overdrive virtual concerts from Orlando since June, will raise money for the Asian Pacific Fund.

The show will feature Lauren the Flute of The Returners (who we featured previously), AnimeVivi, Super Smack, The Megas, and an OVG favorite Mega Ran.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. tonight on Ongaku’s Twitch channel.

It was a night of celebrating Final Fantasy at The Abbey.

Hundreds of die-hard fans swarmed the venue Saturday to check out live music related to the classic series.

Rapper Mega Ran kicked off his set with one of the signature songs off his “Black Materia” album, “Avalanche.”

From Atari 2600 to rapping about Final Fantasy VII. A chat with Mega Ran.

It started with the Atari 2600.

A young Raheem Jarbo sat in his living room in Philadelphia, gobbling up pellets in Pac Man and jumping pits and running the jungles of Pitfall.

That became an obsession with the Super Nintendo and then PlayStation, which ultimately led to Final Fantasy VII, as it often did.

Now, Raheem Jarbo, AKA Mega Ran, travels the country performing his rap songs based on the giant video game franchise.

In a far-reaching interview, we talked about his obsession with the game and some of his rap influences.
